Which Copywriting Style Works Best?

Copywriting isn't one style fits all.

It differs from market to market so your writing style needs to change. Too many beginners who know the basics of copywriting try to blast their approach to every market out there. It won't work.

Can you imagine a funeral home running this ad:

"Die Now and Get 50% Off - Today Only!"

I mean, seriously, the art of winning the battle against your competition for the customers business is to understand what motivates them.

Look at how acne medications and hair loss products are angled. They aggressively go after the person’s self-esteem and insecurity. Is this bad? Not in the least - they have worked out that's exactly how people who suffer form this often feel. They talk to their emotions.

You can produce a great piece of writing but with the wrong hook or angle. That's no good. That's why prior to writing, I always ask clients to give me as much information as possible about their customers. I want to know what makes them click. Once I know this, I can figure out the best hook.

Quick example:

Let's say you sell high-priced, exotic birds. You tell me owners are often wealthy, single and very devoted to them. They also attend shows and devour every exotic bird publication available. They will do anything to give their winged friends the very best. In fact, they often refer to them as their 'children'. These people also tend to run their own websites about their pets and are active contributors on forums.

With this information, I would know right away not to promote your birds as 'new, exclusive, rare' etc. despite the initial temptation. Their motivation is not owning one anymore. It's their parenthood, care and devotion they have for them. They already know they are rare and exotic which makes them that extra special. Perhaps 'an addition to the family' hook would be far more effective. Can you see how important this is?

So make sure you have the right hook and you'll be assured you get a healthy catch.
